3 Ways to Create an Intentional Vision Board

Are you finding it hard to keep your biggest dreams and goals top of mind? As a strong visual person, I’ve found that a vision board is such a powerful tool. It really helps anchor my focus and keeps me motivated toward my dreams. Today, I wanted to open up and share the three kinds of vision boards I use and how I incorporate them into my own creative, intentional life
Why Do We Need a Vision Board?
At its heart, a vision board is a powerful visualization tool. It is a curated collage of images, objects, or phrases that represent the goals and feelings you want to manifest. Many successful people talk about the incredible power of visualization. A vision board makes this practice easy and beautiful. It is like a quiet, constant reminder, allowing those images and phrases to linger in your brain a little longer each day. It is a simple act that encourages you to believe in what you are building.
How I Use a Vision Board
Over time, I've found that having a few different kinds of vision boards helps me connect with my goals in different ways.
1. The Journal Vision Board
This is my private vision board. It is meant to be flipped through during quiet moments, like over a morning coffee or right before bed. I love using a dedicated spread in my planner or journal (as shown below, on the very first page of my Sterling Ink B6 planner) to create a collage of images and inspirational phrases that are perfectly aligned with my goals and dreams. The key is that every time I open my planner to write, I naturally look at the page and refocus on what truly matters in my life.
Tip for Depth: Don't just include photos. You can also include affirmations written in your own hand or checklists of Future Memories you want to create. It makes it a truly living document.
2. The Physical Wall Vision Board
This is about making a clear statement in my physical environment. It is a decorative, creative outlet that reminds me of my bigger picture every time I sit down at my desk. I use a beautiful corkboard like the one I have here, but you could also use a magnetic metal grid. The goal is to display your visions in a way that is impossible to ignore. Beyond pictures, you can use actual objects, like a drawing of a check with a goal amount, or a piece of a material you want to create someday.
Tips: Try not to crowd the board with too many things as it can be a cluster rather than inspiration. You can choose one for each sector or narrow down the sectors to focus on what matters most or what inspires you most right now.
3. The Digital Wallpaper Vision Board
Let's be real. We look at our phone lock screens countless times a day. This is arguably the most effective way to keep your goals top of mind. Since screen size is limited, the goal here is curated vibes over a cluttered mess. I save and frequently rotate pictures or phrases that align with the energy I want to curate. This might be a picture of aesthetic journaling with a planner and coffee to encourage a routine, or a beautiful destination to keep my travel dreams alive.
Now, It is Your Turn
If any of these ideas resonate with you today, I sincerely invite you to start dreaming the life you want. Without even realizing it, we often focus on what we don't have or what we can't achieve. A vision board flips that script, gently encouraging you to see beyond your self-imposed limitations. Sometimes, the hardest part is figuring out what you actually want. That's why I also included the Wheels of Life exercise in my free Vision Board Journaling Kit. It helps you quickly score different areas of your life like finances, career, or relationships, to pinpoint where you want to focus your energy and create some change.
