Moterm Pocket Setup: My Spring Refresh

Does anyone else get that sudden, irresistible urge to completely refresh their entire workspace the moment the weather begins to turn? I have been using a Filofax for quite a while now, and while it served me well, I truly felt like it was finally time to switch things up to match the energy of the spring season. I was looking for something that felt a bit brighter and more vibrant, so I decided to move all of my planning essentials over to this lovely Moterm Pocket in the Apricot shade. While it might seem like a fairly simple change on the surface, it has honestly been a wonderful way for me to reset my daily planning routine and find new motivation.

1. Front and Back
I usually make a conscious effort to decorate the front of my planner with some inspiring pictures or uplifting phrases. I have always been a very visual person, and having these elements right at the start helps me to visualize exactly what I want to achieve. It really motivates me to dive into my ring planner and actually start the planning process for the day. This pocket binder is incredibly useful because it allows me to tuck things inside and also functions effectively as a top divider. To be perfectly honest, I tend to stay away from putting too much highly personal information, family photographs, or sensitive details in here. Since I carry this planner with me almost everywhere I go, I am always a little afraid of what might happen if I were to lose it while I am out and about. However, I still love to add little personal touches, like my kids' artwork or sweet letters they have written. These items are deeply meaningful to me but don't necessarily reveal too much private information. I also enjoy adding my favorite nature photography or bits of snail mail art to make the rings feel much more personal and unique to my style.
2. Routine or Habit Tracker & Meal Planning
For the very first section involving actual writing, I have placed my routine or habit tracker along with my meal planning pages. I am currently using this specific insert from May Paper Co. because it features dedicated morning and evening sections, as well as a space for weekly reflections. I especially love the weekly reflection portion because it allows me to simply sit down and write about what I did well and what areas I need to work on more during the following week. You don't necessarily have to fill out every single part of the morning and evening sections, but I personally like to mix the activities I am already doing consistently with the new habits I am trying to build. By doing it that way, I don't feel too overwhelmed or get easily discouraged. Instead, I feel a sense of accomplishment and stay motivated by looking at the habits I have already successfully formed and maintained.
My meal planning isn't a strict day-by-day schedule. Instead, I like to gather all of the different meals that our family really enjoys or likes to make, and I write down all of the necessary ingredients right next to them. This way, when I am doing my actual planning for the week, I can just pick and choose from my master list and simply write down the name of the dish. It makes the whole process so much faster.

3. To-do list/Inbox, Yearly and Weekly Schedules
The next section is my to-do list, which you could also call an 'inbox.' This is where I write down absolutely everything I can think of that I need to remember, such as banking tasks, bills that need paying, or specific items I need to purchase later on. I have created different sub-sections within this area so that I can categorize things as either 'not too urgent' or 'urgent.' I also keep a list of ordered items here so I can check them off once they actually arrive. If a task is truly time-sensitive, I make sure to transfer it over to my weekly schedule as well so it doesn't get missed.
Instead of using a standard monthly insert, I prefer to use the Filofax yearly folded schedule. I find that it is a lot easier to see everything in one single view, which helps me understand what is happening this month or even throughout the entire year at a glance. Another benefit is that it takes up significantly less space. This is very helpful because this particular ring planner is not very thick, and it can be difficult to accommodate too many bulky inserts at once given its compact pocket size.
For that same reason, I also prefer using weekly schedules rather than daily ones. Once again, I am using the Filofax schedule inserts because they include a section for important key events at the top of the page. I can easily divide each weekly block into daily categories like household chores, family schedules, and meal planning. Since this ring binder is dedicated solely to my family's schedule, the amount of space provided is just perfect for that purpose.
4. Small Wins a Day
This is definitely my favorite part of this ring planner setup. Since I carry this binder with me all the time, both while I'm at home and when I'm out, I wanted to have a dedicated space to record things easily. I thought that recording one 'small win' every day would be a lovely habit to start. It allows me to focus entirely on my own small victories, and the act of writing them down works as a wonderful mood booster. I just write a single sentence, and it can be something as simple as 'I finally finished writing a blog post today' or 'I made a healthy meal for my family.' As these daily entries add up, they make me realize that nothing is truly trivial. It helps me feel like I still accomplished something worthwhile, even if it was a difficult day or one that didn't feel particularly special. I highly recommend this practice to anyone who wants to increase their self-satisfaction or needs a little boost in their daily life.

5. Additional Notes
I always make sure to include some blank inserts for brainstorming, jotting down random thoughts, or taking notes on things I watch or read throughout the day. They are also great just in case I suddenly need to record something important. I especially love using these specific packs because the paper is very sturdy and they come in many different varieties. I have also recently started using these Moterm lined refills for daily journaling on memorable days. This has helped me quite a bit because I no longer skip recording those special moments that I really want to remember and cherish later on.
6. Fun Stationery Collection
In the back pocket, I keep a collection of fun stationery items to use within the planner. I use small stickers, such as 'no school,' 'canceled,' or little event sparks to decorate the pages next to my notes. I also keep this Hobonichi ruler handy to help me divide sections for my weekly schedule or to draw some cute little emojis. Finally, I keep some sticky notes on my back page lifter to add extra information when I need more space. You don't necessarily need all of these extra supplies, but it is always nice to add a little bit of fun and creativity to your ordinary daily plans.

Now that we have gone over all the different things I have added to this small pocket ring planner, you can see how it works for me. It might be small, but it is a mighty scheduler that keeps me organized and focused throughout my busy day. I truly hope this look into my setup helped you and perhaps even motivated you to start your own planning journey.
